Google has officially unveiled its first range of Googlebook laptops, with five models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo set to go on sale in October.

Starting at £999/US$899, the new laptops combine premium hardware with Google’s software and AI features. Each model also includes a year of Google AI Pro, giving buyers access to Gemini Advanced and 5TB of cloud storage.

The five laptops are designed for different types of users. Acer’s model is the only convertible in the lineup, allowing it to switch between laptop and tablet modes. ASUS is targeting users who prioritise portability, with a lightweight 2.2-pound design. Dell has opted for a more distinctive design, while HP is focusing on a refined look. Lenovo’s model features a larger 15-inch display aimed at productivity and multitasking.

All five Googlebook models use premium materials, including aluminium, magnesium alloy and carbon fibre. Touchscreen displays are standard across the range, with resolutions reaching up to 2.8K. Google says the screens are also bright enough to remain clearly visible when used outdoors in direct sunlight.

Under the hood, Googlebook laptops will be available with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Snapdragon X Elite processors. They are paired with neural processing units capable of more than 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) for on-device AI processing.

Google says this hardware will allow demanding AI tasks to run locally without relying as heavily on cloud services or noisy cooling fans.

Every model comes with at least 16GB of RAM, while selected configurations can be upgraded to 32GB. Battery life is rated at up to 14 hours of video playback or as much as 16 hours of web browsing.

Google has also focused on everyday usability. Features include backlit keyboards, large haptic trackpads and audio systems with up to six speakers and Dolby Atmos support. Studio-quality microphones with background-noise cancellation are included as well.

One of the more unusual additions is the Glowbar, which makes its debut on Googlebook laptops.

The illuminated bar can display animations during startup, indicate battery levels and provide other visual feedback. Google is also opening the Glowbar to developers, potentially allowing third-party software to introduce additional uses in the future.

Pre-orders are now available through the Google Store and selected retailers, with prices starting at £999/US$899.

Every Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced. Buyers will also receive three months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop and CapCut.

The laptops will launch on October 4 in the US, followed by October 5 releases in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.

Google is also promising long-term support, with software updates and feature drops planned for up to 10 years.
