Google Takes On Apple With First Physical Store

Reports claim that Google is going to open a flagship store in Chicago’s meatpacking district, pointing to a lease for a 14,000 square foot, two storey location nearby its Midwest office headquarters.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the tech giant will open a physical shop similar to Apple and Microsoft. The store will act as a showcase for Google’s ever expanding range of tech products, from smartphones and the Google Home all the way to thermostats and home security systems.

Previously Google’s retail presence consisted of pop-up stores and smaller shops within other stores.

Entering the retail space has long been rumoured for Google, and the rental in an emerging retail hot spot all but confirms their intentions.

Google spokeswoman Kayla Conti’s response to the claims was short, saying “We don’t comment on rumour or speculation”
