Google is killing off Google Podcasts next year and instead wants content creators to use YouTube Music for podcasts.

Around 23% of Google’s U.S. users have already put their weekly podcasting on YouTube, and earlier this year, Google said it would bring podcasts to YouTube Music, which has led to Google Podcasts being discontinued.

Google said of its plans: “We know this transition will take time, but these efforts will allow us to build an amazing product and a single destination that rewards creators and artists and provides fans with the best podcast experience. ”

Back in 2018, the app for Google Podcasts was added for Android, but the new plans are to streamline their content business, and they aim to make the transition “as simple and easy as possible.”

Google said that Google Podcasters will have the opportunity to load their RSS feeds to YouTube Music, and the tech giant also suggested streamers on Google Podcast should switch now.

“For users, it means a simple migration tool and the ability to add podcast RSS feeds to their YouTube Music library, including shows not currently hosted by YouTube. For those who prefer a different listening platform, the tools will also include an option to download an OPML file of their show subscriptions, which they can upload to an app that supports their import,” Google said.

Google Podcasts has joined a long list of other killed apps and services like Google Domains, YouTube Stories, YouTube Originals, Google Currents, Google Optimize, Google Album Archive, Google Street View, etc.

No word yet has been released when the Google Podcasts app will be removed, but with their decision made, it might be best to switch everything now before the end of 2023.
