Google has rolled out its February 2025 Pixel update which fixes some important security and Bluetooth bugs in all its devices running Android 15.
The update addresses an Android Auto issue related to audio output that was affecting all Pixel devices, while for the Pixel 9 series specifically, it fixes a Bluetooth bug that occasionally prevented connections with certain accessories and devices.
The more critical aspect of this update is that it addresses some key security concerns. It includes several Android-level and Pixel-specific security fixes, reported Android Police.
At the Android level, Google has patched a number of high-level CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures).
For Pixel devices, there’s one “High” level fix that’s related to the battery mitigation subcomponent.
This vulnerability is classified as Information Disclosure (ID), which means theoretically it could have allowed attackers to access sensitive data without authorisation if left unaddressed.
The latest updates are available for Google’s Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphones, as well as its Pixel Tablets.
Older Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 5 and earlier models, will no longer receive regular software updates and are not eligible for this release.
Google’s January update brought a number of fixes including camera-related improvements and themed icon tweaks.
Another update next month is expected to be the final major update for Android 15, and Google is reported to be already testing Android 16 which is scheduled to be released in the middle of this year.
Also, if it keeps to its release schedule of last year, by August we could see the entire Google Pixel 10 smartphone range unveiled.
