Google Hit With $48 Million Mobile Gaming Fine
Google has been hit with a A$48 million fine for using its market power to block the release of mobile video games on competing platforms.
South Korea’s antitrust regulator, the Korea Fair Trade Commission, said Google both increased its market presence, and hurt Korean app store One Store’s revenue by insisting on Google Play exclusively for a number of titles, in exchange of in-app marketing opportunities.

The breaches occurred between June 2016 and April 2018, and impacted a number of game developers, including Netmarble, Nexon and NCSOFT.
“Google makes substantial investments in the success of developers, and we respectfully disagree with the KFTC’s conclusions”, a Google spokesperson said.
Google will assess the findings and plan its next move.
