Google Glass Strikes Back With ‘Enterprise’ Edition

Google’s X Labs have relaunched Google Glass, this time aimed at enterprise customers.

“We first saw signs of Glass’ potential for businesses in the Glass Explorer days. As we said when we graduated, we’d been seeing incredible developments with Glass in the workplace.” Jay Kothari Project Lead for Glass said in a post on Medium

“Now the Glass product team is back at X, and we’ll be collaborating with the Google Cloud team and our partners to help customers across a variety of business sectors make the most of Glass. Together, we’re looking forward to seeing more businesses give their workers a way to work faster and in a more focused way, hands-free.”

While it’s still early days for the revamped product, Google say they’ve already rolled the smartglass headset out to a number of major companies within the logistics, health and manufacturing sectors.

Their clients include General Electric, BHL, Samsung, Volkswagen and more. The full list can be seen on the new site for the product.

According to Google’s page on the new product, “Glass intuitively fits into your workflow and helps you remain engaged and focused on high value work by removing distractions.”

The new iteration of the product even offers a sharper picture, with Google buffing the original Glass’ 5-megapixel camera to an 8-megapixel one.

Smartglasses lost a lot of their early hype following the public failure of Google Glass. However, the recent popularity of low-tech smart glasses like Snap’s Spectacles suggests that the optical wearable still has some life left in it.

However, analysts have tipped the category will rebound in the next few years. Epson has officially launched its next generation BT-300 Moveria smart glasses, which can even be used to fly drones, earlier this month.

Google don’t disclose the pricing for the Google Glass: Enterprise Edition on their site. However, they encourage potential buyers to sign up and make an expression of interest via email.
