Google Appoints New ANZ Managing Director

Google has appointed Mel Silva as the new Managing Director for Google Australia and New Zealand.

Ms Silva has been with the company for more than 11 years and has held several senior leadership positions across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, most recently as Managing Director, Go to Market Strategy & Operations, based in Singapore.

Prior to joining Google she worked as General Manager at Fairfax Digital’s Direct Access Division and was previously employed in several financial services roles at Citibank, ING Direct and AMP.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Silva said, “I am thrilled to be coming home and rejoining the Google Australia and New Zealand team. There is a tremendous digital opportunity for the region, with businesses and consumers increasingly making use of tools such as AI and Machine Learning. I can’t wait to work with our partners and clients to help them innovate, grow and succeed,” she added.

Karim Temsamani, President of Google Asia Pacific, added: “Mel is an exceptional leader who really knows how to bring the best out of people and has a thorough understanding of our partners’ needs. She has built an in-depth knowledge of the region, which makes her perfectly placed to continue to develop our engagement with consumers and businesses across Australia and New Zealand.”

Ms Silva replaces Jason Pellegrino, who left Google last month for Domain.
