Gmail Adds Purchases Tab for Online Orders
Google is giving Gmail users a new way to track their shopping.
A ‘Purchases’ tab is being rolled out on web and mobile, collecting order confirmations and shipping updates in one place.
The feature is landing first in personal Gmail accounts, with access via the side menu.
The change means Australians who regularly buy from Amazon, eBay or local retailers can quickly see all their orders together.
However, the rollout will be gradual, so many users may not see the tab for days or even weeks.
Gmail’s primary inbox won’t lose its package alerts.

Two decades after launching, Gmail is still innovating
Deliveries due that day will still appear as cards at the top of the inbox, with quick actions such as ‘See item’ or ‘Track package’.
Google hasn’t yet published full details on how many cards will appear or how consistent those buttons will be across different retailers.
At the same time, it’s introducing a new tab, Google is revamping an existing one.
In the ‘Promotions tab’, a new ‘most relevant’ option will push brands and offers you interact with to the top, while Gmail will send nudges about deals set to expire.
(Users who prefer chronological ordering can stick with the traditional ‘most recent’ sorting.)
Analysts say the updates reflect Google’s broader push to keep Gmail central to everyday life.
By bundling package tracking and shopping offers directly into inboxes, Google is positioning Gmail as more than just an email service.
Google now wants Gmail to be the place where consumers manage their purchases as well.
