Market research firm Trendforce has claimed that global notebook shipments for this second quarter of 2017 amounted to a sequential quarterly increase of 5.7% and a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.
“HP consecutively won first place in the global shipment ranking; Dell posted the largest sequential increase of 21.3%”, the firm claims.
Trendforce say boosted demand from North America during the first half of 2017 contributed to a global shipment result that exceeded the market expectations.
According to them, “there are worries in the market that the strong shipment result for this year’s first half reflects demand being pulling ahead, so shipments in the second half might be comparatively weak.”
“Nonetheless, the third-quarter notebook shipments are projected to increase by another 3% to 5% versus the prior quarter,” pointed out Kou-Han Tseng, TrendForce’s notebook analyst.
As a result, TrendForce has revised its estimation of shipments for this entire year. The firm now expects an annual decline of within 2%.
Previous estimates by Taiwan-based Digitimes Research indicated that the global notebook sector was due to pick up some momentum in the market. Their prediction came after the final quarter of 2016 showed an on-year increase for the first time since 2012.
