Foxconn, Sharp Ink It – Finally

Foxconn and Sharp have formally signed their long-awaited deal that will see the Taiwanese company take control of the Japanese display maker.

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou put a positive spin on the deal, expressing confidence in the Japanese company’s ability to return to profit with its highly regarded display technology.

Gou said Sharp’s proprietary know-how to mass-produce the advanced IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) display technology would prrove to be a major factor in the company’s future.

Gou claimed IGZO is superior to the popular OLED and is being used in products such as Apple’s iPad.

He added that Foxconn would retain all jobs at Sharp and said it had ambitious plans to be a key player in next-gen consumer products, including the Internet of Things and smart-home appliances.
