Fleetwood Mac And ZZ Top Get Limited Reel-To-Reel Audiophile Release
Fleetwood Mac and ZZ Top have become the latest classic rock acts to get the premium reel-to-reel treatment, with Rhino High Fidelity releasing two landmark 1970s albums in the revived audiophile format.
Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album, often called the ‘White Album’, and ZZ Top’s 1973 breakthrough Tres Hombres have both been issued as limited reel-to-reel editions, aimed at serious hi-fi collectors.
Each album has been duplicated in real time from a 1:1 copy of the original flat analogue master tapes, with Rhino claiming the format delivers a master-quality listening experience without the surface noise or groove wear associated with vinyl.

The tapes are produced at 15 inches per second on half-track quarter-inch tape, using IEC equalisation and RTM LPR90 tape stock. Each release is stored on a 10.5-inch metal reel, meaning buyers will also need a dedicated reel-to-reel tape machine to play them.
The releases are limited to just 500 copies worldwide and are available exclusively through Rhino.com, priced at US$300 each, or around A$460 before shipping and taxes.
Rhino has been expanding its reel-to-reel audiophile series across Warner Music’s catalogue, following releases from Joni Mitchell, Curtis Mayfield, The Stooges, Yes and T.Rex.
