Fire Induces Telstra Meltdown

Telstra-users are experiencing Australia-wide outages after a fire at at the Chatswood Exchange.

Telstra has said in a statement that “A fire at the Chatswood Exchange in Sydney this afternoon has been contained, but damage has been caused to some power infrastructure. As a result a number customers are experiencing loss of service. Our technicians are currently completing a full assessment of the impact. We will provide more information as soon as it is available.”

In the wake of the outages, Telstra customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Brisbane and parts of regional South Australia have taken to Twitter to express their frustration.

A number of Jetstar flights were also delayed as a consequence of the outages.

The move comes at a contentious time for Telstra, with reports of the carrier accused of pressuring unhappy customers into silence via inducements.
