Vodafone Group has appointed former Telstra CEO David Thodey as a non-executive director effective from the start of September — subject to shareholder approval at the group’s upcoming AGM scheduled for 23 July.
Thodey spent six years at the helm of Australia’s largest telecommunications supplier and retired in 2015 after an overall 12 years at the company.
Thodey replaced combative Sol Trujillo at Telstra and restructured Telstra’s customer service operation
Prior to Telstra, Thodey spent 22 years at IBM where he rose to the position of CEO of the company’s Australia and New Zealand region.
Currently, Thodey holds non-executive director board positions at Ramsay Health Care and Tyro and formerly held a board position at GSMA.
He is also chairman of Australian government agency the CSIRO.
Thodey’s numerous years of experiences may be beneficial for Vodafone Group as they prepare to fight the ACCC’s block of its plans to merge with TPG, set to receive a hearing before the end of the year.
