Chinese audio brand Edifier has unveiled a new pair of budget headphones that feature a built-in dot-matrix display capable of showing real-time song lyrics and animated graphics.

Priced at 279 yuan (about A$60), the Auro Ace have debuted in China as Edifier looks to differentiate itself in the increasingly crowded low-cost audio market.

The programmable display is embedded into the earcups, allowing users to show synced lyrics, audio spectrum animations, pixel art and custom text via the companion app.

Edifier is positioning the Auro Ace as both an audio device and a wearable fashion accessory, with built-in themes designed to match outfits and moods.

The headphones, available in black, silver and gold, include 32mm dynamic drivers, Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, multipoint pairing for simultaneous connection to two devices, as well as USB audio support for wired playback. AI-powered noise reduction is also included for voice calls.

Despite the flashy design, the Auro Ace remain lightweight at 130 grams, with an adjustable hidden headband and swing-joint earcup design aimed at improving comfort during extended listening sessions.

Edifier claims up to 62 hours of battery life, although that figure applies with the dot-matrix display switched off and volume set at 50%. Fast charging support delivers up to 11 hours of playback from a 15-minute charge.
