OZ Retailers Briefed On New 12.9″ iPad, On Sale Late October
The iPad Pro will have a 2,048 x 2732 pixel, 12.9in screen and is tipped to go up against new tablet offerings from both Samsung, Lenovo and Microsoft.
Accessory manufacturers have already been briefed on the new device with one manufacturer telling ChannelNews that they will sell a dock and keyboard for the new device.
The company’s supply chains are currently manufacturing components for the 12.9″ iPad which is tipped to be ideal for the B2Bchannel, Foxconn Electronics the Company that manufacturers the iPhone 6 is set to assemble the new device.
The biggest concern for Apple is volume as research indicates that demand for tablets has fallen.
Retail sources have told ChannelNews that Apple see the device as a business tool and as an ideal tablet for gaming.
“Apple is rather cautious about placing related orders and the initial shipment volume is much lower than most market watchers’ expectations,” a source told DigiTimes.
The 2,048 x 2732 pixel, 12.9in screen is believed to be coming from LG Electronics, it will also have an Apple Watch-style Force Touch display, a USB-C connector and a stylus built into the side of the device.
According to sources Apple were concerned that the larger sized iPad could “cannibalise” MacBook sales.
