DJI Takes On GoPro With ‘Osmo Action Cam’

After GoPro was forced to end its drone division thanks to stiff competition from DJI, the drone manufacturer has now launched its first Osmo Action Camera, featuring dual screens and 4K recording.

The launch follows several rumours that DJI would release an action cam, and the model looks strikingly similar to market leader GoPro.

The new Osmo Action is a clear competitor to GoPro’s Hero line and features a 1/2.3-inch sensor capable of capturing 12MP photos, 4K, and 4K HDR video.

The camera features electronic image stabilisation (EIS) to aid in capturing images on the move.

The action cam can record 4K at 60 f/p/s with EIS and 4K HDR at 30 f/p/s, and capture 8x slow motion in 1080p 240fps or 4x slow motion in 1080p 120fp.

What sets this camera apart from its competition are its dual displays.

It features a 2.25″ touchscreen on its rear and a 1.4″ on its front which both promise 750 nits of brightness and good visibility in direct sunlight.

Users can toggle through photo, video, timelapse, slow motion, and switch screens via the camera’s Quick Switch physical button.

DJI describes the action cam as  “rugged” with its dustproof, shockproof (up to 5 feet) and waterproof (down to 36 feet and down to 60 feet with an additional waterproof case) rating.

Customers can also purchase an additional floating handle so it won’t sink in water and it ships with a camera frame kit which includes a quick release base, adhesive mounts, locking screw and cable.

The Osmo Action is available now for $499 AUD from store.dji.com and will be available at DJI authorised dealers in June.
