DJI has issued a firmware update for its Spark drone that adds a number of new features and improvements.
Owners of DJI’s smallest and most affordable drone are now able to start recording by raising their arm in front of the drone’s camera, adding to the range of existing gesture controls including sending the drone away and taking an aerial selfie.
Additional control over the ‘QuickShot’ feature of the Spark now allows users to select the direction used in Circle and Helix modes, which both see the camera repeatedly fly around a chosen point.
“We are excited to make Spark even better with these new features and improvements, many which are the result of the overwhelmingly positive feedback and requests we received from customers around the world,” said DJI’s senior product manager Paul Pan.
“These updates deliver on our vision to make Spark an easy and fun camera drone that anyone can use, even if you’ve never flown a drone before.”
Photo shooting features on the Spark have also been improved. DJI have upped the resolution of photos taken in ActiveTrack and Gesture Modes to 12-megapixels, and have added a new 180 mode that stitches 21 photos together for a 180-degree panorama.
The update also delivers a number of performance improvements, including better responsiveness to remote controller input and enhanced connectivity between the drone and controller.
Users need to download the new firmware on their drone and remote controller, and also need to download the latest DJI GO 4 app for Android or iOS.
