Divorce Costs Bezos First $200B Man Crown
Last year’s divorce from ex-wife McKenzie Bezos has reportedly cost Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, from being crowned the world’s first $200 billion man this week.
According to the New York Post, Mr Bezos inked a divorce settlement of nearly 20 million shares, which reportedly saw MacKenzie walk away with nearly $38 billion.
Mr Bezos is said to have been ranked the world’s first $200 billion man this week, has the divorce settlement not taken place.
According to Forbes, Mr Bezos’ net worth grew by $2.6 billion early this week to $152 billion, whilst MacKenzie’s climbed to around $49.6 billion.
The news comes as digital tech giant shares climb amongst the coronavirus pandemic, with home-bound consumers increasingly deferring to online shopping and entertainment.
A report published last month by the US Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) claims the wealth of billionaires like Bezos and Tesla founder, Elon Musk, have significantly increased during the COVID19 crisis – juxtaposed by over 22 million Americans who have filed for unemployment.
Research suggests Bezos is also on track to become the world’s first trillionaire as early as 2026.
