Digital Camera Sales Grow For The First Time Since 2011

Digital camera sales have grown for the first time nearly in seven years, after being on the decline since 2011.

In 2016, only 24.2 million shipments were made for digital cameras but in 2017 that number rose to 25 million units.

A chart by Statista shows digital camera shipments by Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA) members since 2004 with a steady rise until 2010 when the sales begin to drop.

Statista says, “Global camera shipments by CIPA members dropped by nearly 80 percent since peaking in 2010.”

The biggest drop occurred between 2011 and 2012, with shipments plummeting from 98.1 million to 62.8 million.

This decline goes hand in hand with the growth of smartphone usage.
