David Jones Looks For New Head Of Online After Profit Plunge

David Jones who has struggled to be an online player in Australia, is looking for a new head of online operations in an effort to take on Amazon and several major players who have stripped share away from the department store group who recently reported a 50% plunge in profits.

The new person will be expected to drive sales across the DJ’s online platform through the creation and implementation of a rigorous online strategy a recent advertisement for the position said.

They will also be expected to take responsibility for the overall trading of the David Jones online business, as well as the development of the Companies web platform.

David Jones’ profit plunged 50 per cent in 2018, now it’s South African parent, Woolworths Holdings is looking to be a player online.

After a 29 per cent fall in operating profit to $84 million in the December half, David Jones’ profit fell 49.6 per cent to $64 million in the 12 months ending June as rising costs exacerbated weaker sales.

Department store earnings dropped 58 per cent to $45 million, while financial services earnings were flat at $19 million.

The Company claims that the new head of online will be a proven e-commerce professional who has worked in a transformational role, delivering digital growth for a consumer led business.
