CES 2019: Netgear Debut Wi-Fi 6 Orbi Mesh Router

Netgear has announced its Orbi Whole Home Wireless System for Wi-Fi 6 will rollout later this year via software update – the second Wi-Fi 6 mesh router to unveil at CES 2019 thus far. (Australian availability to be confirmed).

With the next generation of Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 6) tipped to launch internationally this year, the router pledges better power efficiency, plus the ability to support more devices at the same time.

The later is set to be crucial as smart home IoT adoption continues to accelerate.

The system claims to support 12 simultaneous data streams, delivering four times the capacity per node versus former Orbi products.

Netgear states the update will go to market with its RBK50 range (Local pricing and availability to be confirmed).

The Orbi Mesh system has largely received rave reviews, with Netgear asserting the new update is sufficient to maintain Gigabit Ethernet speeds over a wireless networking signal.

Despite the new standard, the majority of today’s consumer products are not compatible with Wi-Fi 6, with some commentators not expecting a mass market shift for some time.
