Bose has unveiled the first major update to its QuietComfort headphones in three years, introducing new audio capabilities, improved active noise cancellation and several design refinements aimed at enhancing comfort and everyday use.

One of the most significant additions is Bose’s Immersive Audio technology, which was previously reserved for the premium QuietComfort Ultra range. The feature uses built-in motion sensors to create a three-dimensional listening experience, making music, films and games sound more spacious.

The refreshed headphones also gain Cinema Mode, which is designed to improve dialogue clarity when watching television programs and movies by creating a more immersive soundstage.

Bose has expanded connectivity by adding two-way USB-C audio. Users can now enjoy wired lossless playback at up to 24-bit/48kHz while also benefiting from improved microphone quality during video calls. The headphones can continue operating while connected to a USB-C charging cable, allowing users to listen without interruption even when the battery is low.

The company’s active noise cancellation system has also been upgraded. Bose says the revised software reacts more smoothly to sudden bursts of surrounding noise when using Aware Mode, allowing users to remain aware of their environment without compromising listening quality.

The six-microphone noise cancellation system has also been refined to compensate for small gaps between the ear cushions and the wearer’s head, an improvement that should particularly benefit people who wear glasses.

Comfort has received attention as well, with Bose redesigning the headband, increasing the amount of cushioning and introducing new oval-shaped earcups intended to provide a better fit during extended listening sessions.

Alongside the familiar black and white finishes, Bose will also offer several limited-edition colour options.

Pre-orders for the updated QuietComfort headphones open on 8 August, with deliveries scheduled to begin on 13 August. Bose has not yet announced Australian pricing.
