Booktopia has named two new non-executive directors as its re-builds its board following a horror period.

Abigail Cheadle and Stephen Ezekiel who will join recently ousted CEO Tony Nash, Steve Traurig, and new chairman Peter George, who was appointed earlier this month.

At last month’s AGM, directors Fiona Pak-Poy and Judy Slatyer quit the board, following the September resignations of chairman Chris Beare and director Su-Ming Wong.

This follows the pushing out of co-founder Tony Nash as the company’s CEO in May (pictured below).

Cheadle is a chartered accountant, corporate strategist and risk management expert with thirty years experience working globally for firms such as EY, Deloitte, and KordaMentha.

Ezekiel is the chairman and CEO of Hong Kong-based private credit firm Sammasan Capital, with over 25 years of experience in leadership positions across the financial, private equity, and telco sectors.

Peter George said Cheadle and Ezekiel bring “a diverse range of skills and expertise” to the board.

Despite bringing in record revenue of $240 million last financial year, a number of one-off expenses took a $13.8 million bite out of Booktopia’s net profits.

These included $6 million of Federal Court fines regarding Booktopia’s misleading returns policy, and the removal of Nash as CEO, which cost $1.3 million.
