BINGE Gains 7% Market Share In First 2 Months
According to the latest figures from JustWatch, an international streaming guide with more than 20 million users, BINGE has gained 7% of the Australian market share as of June 2020, despite only launching in late May.
This puts BINGE on an equal footing with Foxtel’s other cheaper streaming service Foxtel Now (also at 7%).
No doubt BINGE’s rapid uptake has been supported by Australians spending more time at home during the COVID-19 lockdowns. At the BINGE launch, Foxtel revealed that around 4 million households in Australia currently have a streaming service. The company estimates this will reach 8 million by 2023.
According to JustWatch, as of early July, Australia’s top-10 TV titles (in order) are: The War of the Worlds; The X-Files; Fleabag; What We Do in the Shadows; Killing Eve; Perry Mason; Grey’s Anatomy; Law & Order: Special Victims Unit; Fargo; and Westword.
Netflix continues to lead the market with 32% of the Australian market, followed by Amazon Prime, Stan, and Disney+.
Last week Netflix reported that it had exceeded its global Q2 2020 forecasts, adding 10.1 million paid subscriptions that quarter, marking a new Q2 record.
