Australian Distributor Audio Active to Launch World’s First 8K-Certified Movie Player
Melbourne-based Audio Active is set to bring the Kaleidescape Strato K to Australia, marking what the company says is a landmark moment for high-end home cinema, as the device becomes the world’s first movie player to receive certification from the 8K Association.
Developed by premium content hardware maker Kaleidescape, the Strato K raises the bar for home theatre playback by combining native 8K movie support with a new proprietary format dubbed 4K Cinematic, which the company says delivers full chroma at up to 4:4:4 colour sampling alongside significantly higher bitrates than conventional 4K.
The performance gains are powered by an onboard 8K processing engine, giving the player the horsepower to handle the demands of next-generation content at a fidelity level the company claims has no peer in the consumer market.
Storage comes in the form of a built-in 1TB solid state drive, enough to hold a limited number of 8K or 4K Cinematic titles. Capacity scales up by pairing the unit with any of Kaleidescape’s Terra movie servers, which also extend playback capability to a whole-home entertainment configuration.
Content is sourced through the Kaleidescape Movie Store, which the company describes as the world’s only high-fidelity digital movie library, offering titles in 8K, 4K Cinematic, 4K, and 2K with lossless multichannel audio, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
The Strato K operates either as a standalone player or as part of a larger Kaleidescape system, giving integrators and end users flexibility in how they deploy it.
The launch reinforces Kaleidescape’s position at the top end of the custom install and home theatre market, arriving at a time when screen sizes continue to grow and demand for native 8K content is beginning to build. With 8K Association certification now in hand, the Strato K is positioned as the reference device for the format as the ecosystem matures.
Pricing and availability details are expected to be confirmed by Audio Active ahead of the Australian launch.
