Arcam Announces IMAX Enhanced Firmware Update For AV Receiver Range
UK Hi-Fi and AV specialist Arcam is the latest AV brand to join the IMAX Enhanced programme. It’s announced that a firmware update to support the initiative, a collaboration between DTS and IMAX, will be available before the end of the year for the following AV receivers: the AVR390, AVR550, AVR850 and AV860 (pictured above).
IMAX Enhanced video encoding is said to maximise UHD image quality using proprietary noise reduction.
IMAX Enhanced audio is delivered using a variant of the DTS:X codec, which an IMAX Enhanced receiver or processor unlocks. The signature sound mix is notable for its extremely wide dynamic range. There’s no news yet of any movie software to support the format, however, distributor AWE has previewed the system at its Epsom KEF Reference theatre, to great effect.
IMAX says it is currently working with its global studio and content partners to make available a “steady stream” of IMAX Enhanced versions of blockbuster movies and additional programming.
“Arcam prides itself at always being at the forefront of consumer experience-enhancing technologies, including, in 1995, giving the world its first audiophile AV amplifier,” says Arcam Director of Sales, Scott Campbell.
“When we feel that a technology or feature will add further to our customers’ enjoyment levels, we get fully on-board and deliver the goods. For this reason, we are delighted to be part of the IMAX Enhanced programme, unifying the benefits of our award-winning AV receivers with amazing sounding, and incredible looking, content from DTS and IMAX.”
