Apple CEO Tim Cook has warned US President Donald Trump that tariffs placed on goods imported from China could hurt American companies and their ability to compete against global giants like Samsung.
President Trump said Mr Cook “made a good case” when the pair had dinner on Friday night according to Bloomberg, particularly since Samsung won’t be as impacted by the additional tariffs on $300 billion worth of goods from China that are set to be introduced in stages through the rest of the year.
Apple has the majority of its products built in China whereas Samsung has production facilities in many countries, and only a minority of its products come from China.
“It’s tough for Apple to pay tariffs if it’s competing with a very good company that’s not,” Mr Trump said.
