Apple has confirmed its next major product event will take place on September 9, with the company expected to unveil its latest iPhone line-up and potentially introduce its first foldable smartphone.

The event will begin at 1pm US Eastern Time at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park and will also be streamed online through Apple’s website.

Apple is promoting the event under the tagline “Surprise and shine”, although the company has not revealed which products will be announced.

The biggest potential launch is the long-rumoured foldable iPhone. Recent images of an apparent dummy unit suggest Apple could adopt a wider book-style design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

If the foldable appears at the September event, it would represent one of Apple’s most significant iPhone design changes in years and mark the company’s entry into a category already occupied by Samsung, Google, Motorola and several Chinese manufacturers.

Apple is also expected to refresh its premium smartphones with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Current rumours suggest the two models will be evolutionary updates rather than complete redesigns.

The standard iPhone 18, however, may not appear at the event. Reports suggest Apple could delay the mainstream model until 2027 as it reorganises its iPhone release schedule.

An iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air are also reportedly planned for next year.

The September event will carry additional significance because it will be Apple’s first major product launch under incoming chief executive John Ternus. The former hardware engineering chief is set to replace Tim Cook on September 1.

Apple has not announced pricing for any of the expected devices, including the rumoured foldable iPhone. Australian pricing will become clearer if and when the new models are officially revealed on September 9.
