Apple Set To Revamp TV App
Apple are in talks to redesign its TV app as the company heads towards multiple video offerings later this year, according to insider knowledge.
The company is said to be preparing a new version of its app to release around December, part of an upcoming tvOS software update.
The app is known for compiling content from iTunes, Apple TV+, Live Sports networks, and third-party offerings including Amazon Prime.
Part of the overhaul will see the discontinuation of dedicated apps on the Apply TV set-top box, which currently allows users to rent and buy movies and shows. The movies & TV show sections will also be removed from the iTunes Store app on iPhones and iPads.

The company’s idea is to lead customers towards the main TV app, where users can subscribe to TV+ along with third-party services including Starz and Paramount+. The app already lets users rent and buy programs.
Apple are supposedly aiming to become to go-to hub for streaming content, having spent billions on movies and shows including ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ which has just been released. Users are charged $9.99 AUD a month.
The revamped app is said to include a new side panel on the left-hand side for navigating between video categories, and in addition to running on Apple’s set-top box, it’s available on smart TVs designed by other companies.
The tvOS upgrade is one of several software updates in the works, including the soon-to-be released iPhone software update, iOS 17.1, which fixes bugs and adds features for saving favourite tracks in Apple Music.

The company is also reportedly already working on iOS 17.3 and iOS 17.4, for release in 2024. iOS 18 is expected to bring generative AI features to Apple devices later that year.
Apple also announced plans for a product launch on October 30th, which is expected to focus on its Mac computer lineup.
