Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 26.5, just days after rolling out iOS 26.4, offering an early glimpse at the company’s next incremental iPhone update.

While the release is light on major headline features, it introduces several changes that point to Apple’s broader strategy across services, messaging and monetisation. The most notable addition is a new “Suggested Places” feature in Apple Maps, which surfaces location recommendations directly within search. The move aligns with Apple’s reported plans to introduce advertising into Maps later this year.

Messaging also sees a boost, with end-to-end encryption for RCS chats between iPhone and Android reappearing in the beta. If it makes the final release, it would mark a significant step forward for cross-platform privacy and usability.

Other updates include new App Store subscription options for developers, improved accessory pairing, expanded device support, and enhanced file sharing between iOS and Android users. Region-specific features are also present, including broader Live Activities support in the EU and a new Inuktitut keyboard.

Notably absent, however, are long-anticipated Siri and AI upgrades. Those improvements are now expected to arrive with iOS 27, likely previewed at WWDC in June.

A public release date for iOS 26.5 has not yet been confirmed.
