Apple Plans Multitasking Features For iPadOS 16

A complete software refresh for the iPad is one of the key announcements Apple will make at next week’s Worldwide Developers Conference, according to insiders.

The iPadOS 16 will feature a multitasking interface, designed to bridge the gap between the iPad and a MacBook, and allow people to use the former in many of the ways they use the latter. It will make it easier to see in one glance which apps are open, and cycle through them. Users will also be able to resize windows.

The WWDC will also see announcements on OS updates for the iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV.

The tech giant has been heavily hinting at some form of VR/AR announcement, but recent rumours suggest this might not happen.

Late last month, Apple presented its new AR/VR headset to the company’s board, made up of Tim Cook and eight independent directors. It also trademarked the term ‘realityOS’ ahead of the conference.

This suggests that the VR/AR headset, codenamed N301, could be nearing completion, and may even make its way into the market by the end of the year, powered by Apple’s own rOS ‘reality operating system’.

WWDC takes place on June 6.
