The US Patent & Trademark Office has published a continuation patent application from Apple relating to their 2020 invention, claiming it relates to a foldable “laptop.”

The following descriptions have been described by Apple relating to this new device:

A housing to supply an outer surface, an inner surface, and first and second housing portions coupled by a hinge. This housing would be operable in open and closed positions, has a flexible display on the inner surface that spans at least partially across both first and second housing portions, an additional display on the outer surface and a touch sensor configured to gather touch input on the outer surface while in the closed position.

The device’s flexible display and additional display could be formed from a common display layer.

The additional display could cover only a portion of the outer surface.

The device could have an opaque layer overlapping a portion of the flexible display.

The opaque layer could compromise an opaque masking layer.

The opaque layer could comprise of an opaque portion of the housing.

The device could comprise of an additional touch sensor that gathers touch input on the flexible display.

The additional touch sensor could span partially across the first and second housing portions.

The touch sensor and additional touch sensor could share a common substrate.

The flexible display and the additional touch sensor could be configured to bend along a bend axis aligned at the hinge.

The housing could comprise first, and second housing portions coupled by a hinge.

The first display could comprise of a flexible display spanning at least partially across the first and second housing portions.

The device could comprise of an additional touch sensor that overlaps at least on the first display and second display.

The housing could comprise of a sidewall and wherein the opaque portion is located on the sidewall.

The device could comprise of a display cover layer overlapping the flexible display.

The display cover layer could be comprised as glass.

The device could comprise of an additional display on an outer surface of the foldable housing.

The additional display could be touch-sensitive.
