Apple Owes Qualcomm $9 Billion Court Hears

Qualcomm is claiming that the royalty clock is still running and that Apple now owes them over $9 Billion dollars. The information came out in a court hearing on Friday that Apple is $9.5 billion behind in patent royalty payments to the mobile chip firm.

Qualcomm has been a supplier to Apple for their iPhone for years yet despite this Apple is behind on royalty payments.

Currently Apple and Qualcomm are involved in a series legal actions. Apple has accused Qualcomm of unfair patent licensing practices.

Qualcomm, the world’s largest mobile phone chip supplier, has in turn accused Apple of patent infringement.

This sort of argument is not new at Apple with the Company forced to pay out several Companies who have accused them of “not paying”.

Apple has argued that Qualcomm is forcing it to pay for the same patents twice, once when Apple uses Qualcomm’s chip in iPhones and then again through patent royalties.

Qualcomm has argued that its practices are legal and that Apple who recently aquired their own chip maker, is seeking to destroy Qualcomm’s business model after agreeing to it for years.
