Apple MacBook Pro, Mac Mini Launch Today

Apple today announced the launch of the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max chips- bolstering a product line that brought in $58 billion last year- and Mac minis with M2 and M2 Pro chips.

Users can now order the new Macs and Mac minis, with availability beginning Friday, 3 February.

With the new chips, the 16-in MacBook Pros can run for 22 hours, while the 14-inch model runs for 18 hours, both up by an hour from their previous models.

With the M2 Pro chip, MacBook Pro render titles and animations in Motion up to 80 per cent faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 20 per cent faster than the previous generation.

The new laptops support Wi-Fi 6E, which is twice as fast as the previous generation, advanced HDMI for 8k display. They also got a memory boost to a maximum of 96 gigabytes in the M2 Max model.

They also feature renowned Liquid Retina XDR display, extensive array of connectivity, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, six-speaker sound system, and studio-quality mics. When combined with macOS Ventura, the MacBook Pro user experience is unrivalled.

MacBook Pro with M2 Pro features a 10- or 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance and four high-efficiency cores for up to 20 per cent greater performance over M1 Pro.

Its 200GB/s of unified memory bandwidth is double the amount in M2 and contains up to 32GB of unified memory.

A next-generation GPU with up to 19 cores delivers up to 30 per cent more graphics performance, and the Neural Engine is 40 per cent faster, speeding up machine learning tasks like video analysis and image processing. The powerful media engine in M2 Pro also tears through the most popular video codecs, dramatically accelerating video playback and encoding while using very little power.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro starts at $3199 and $2959; and the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro starts at $3999, and $3679 respectively.

The Mac minis supercharged by M2 starts at $999 while Mac Mini with M2 Pro starts at $1999.

Compared to the previous-generation Mac mini, M2 and M2 Pro bring a faster next-generation CPU and GPU, much higher memory bandwidth, and a more powerful media engine to Mac mini, to deliver extraordinary performance and industry-leading power efficiency. Both models feature an advanced thermal system for exceptional sustained performance.

Mac mini with M2 features an 8-core CPU with four high-performance and four high-efficiency cores, along with a 10-core GPU — perfect for users looking for super-fast performance and incredible productivity.

For users with more intensive tasks, Mac mini with M2 also powers through even more demanding workloads. With up to 24GB of unified memory and 100GB/s of bandwidth, activities like image editing in Adobe Photoshop are up to 50 per cent faster than the previous generation.

M2 also adds ProRes acceleration to Mac mini, so tasks like video editing in Final Cut Pro are more than twice as fast. The M2 model can also simultaneously play up to two streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps. With all this performance, Mac mini is up to 5x faster than the bestselling Windows desktop.

Mac mini can be paired with Studio Display and Magic accessories. Studio Display completes the full Mac desktop setup experience with its expansive 27-inch 5K Retina display, 12MP Ultra Wide camera with Center Stage, studio-quality three-mic array, and six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio. Customers can add matching Magic accessories that complement the elegant design of Mac mini and Studio Display.

Besides these launches, the Cupertino-based giant is also working on its iPhone 15 lineup and a VR headset that is expected to release this year.

In the longer run, Apple is aiming to bring touch screens to the MacBook Pro starting 2025.
