One of Apple’s patents has been granted where a hinged OLED screen to be used a “dynamic keyboard” for an iPad or MacBook, meaning the touch bar would be the entire keyboard.
Spotted by Patently Apple, the dynamic keyboard could be used as a sketch pad or gaming controls as well as a regular keyboard. Illustrations show one screen is LED with the other being OLED.
The patent also shows using a second display as a keyboard could result in unwanted reflections between one screen and the other. Polarizer layers and wave plates would be used in both displays to prevent any such glare.
There are two versions of the dynamic keyboards the first one is held together with a hinge looking similar to a MacBook.
The second version makes it look like a detachable keyboard with magnets on the device creating a 2-in-1 product.
The patent was granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and can be viewed here.
Apple Insider points out most of Apple’s patents don’t make it to market but because the touchbar has been developed there could be something similar in the future.
