Apple Dominates 2019 Global Smartphone Sales
Apple’s iPhone XR was the best-selling phone in the world last year, according to new research.
Counterpoint Research released a breakdown of the global top selling smartphones for 2019 and Apple leads the way with six models in the top ten.
Samsung has three models while OPPO rounds out the list.
The iPhone XR outsold all other phones to capture 3% of the global market, according to Counterpoint’s Market Pulse study.
The iPhone 11 secured second spot with 2.1% market share despite being available for only four months of the year after launching in September.
Samsung’s Galaxy A50 is third with 1.8% just ahead of its Galaxy A10 with 1.7% share. The OPPO A5 is fifth with 1.3% share. The latter was the top-selling phone model in China for the year.
The report also breaks down phone sales per region. The OPPO A5 was number one in China and throughout APAC. Samsung does best in Europe where the A50 was number one, and in Africa and Latin America where the A10 was top. Apple dominates North America where the XR captured 12% of the market and the top five were all Apple phones.
Counterpoint notes that 5G contributed to only 1% of global sales in 2019.
