Apple App Store Delivers Over US$70 Billion To Developers
Apple has announced that developers worldwide have earned over US$70 billion ($95 billion) through its App Store since it launched in 2008.
When factoring in Apple’s typical 30% cut, the figure suggests that users have spent more than US$100 billion ($135 billion) through the App Store in less than nine years.
Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller said customers had been downloading apps in record numbers, with download growth of over 70% in the past 12 months.
“Seventy billion dollars earned by developers is simply mind-blowing. We are amazed at all of the great new apps our developers create and can’t wait to see them again next week at our Worldwide Developers Conference,” Schiller said.
The company also noted that active paid subscriptions through the App Store had increased by 58% year-on-year.
A refresh to the 15-inch MacBook Pro is among the announcements expected at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference next week, with a keynote event scheduled for early Tuesday morning Australia time.
