Despite their accessories being overpriced, Apple has been forced to initiate a massive recall of their AC wall adapters in Australia and New Zealand.
The recall targets two-prong wall plug adapters sold via Apple stores and select Apple partners.
According to Apple, affected adapters “may break and create a risk of electrical shock if touched”.
Apple says it is currently aware of at least 12 incidents relating to the chargers, some of these failures are believed to have happened in Australia and New Zealand.
The plug adapters in question were designed for use in Australia and New Zealand and were manufactured in China.
The adapters were shipped with Mac and certain iOS devices between 2003 and 2015. They were also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit.

“Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to exchange affected wall plug adapters with a new, redesigned adapter, free of charge,” the company explains.
Apple adds that other wall plug adapters – including those designed for the USA, the UK, China, and Japan – are not affected by the recall.
