This time last year it was former Harvey Norman Director David Ackery who was calling it quits, now the long serving Director of Harvey Norman Commercial in Queensland Steve Cavalier is bowing out after joining the business in 1988.

A legend in the appliance industry Cavalier who is also well known in the construction industry having been responsible for tens of millions of Harvey Normans commercial in the past.

Steve Cavalier has decided to retire according to Harvey Norman insiders.

One of the big successes of his career was the opening of the Cooking Inspiration Gallery at one of Harvey Norman’s most successful stores at Bundall on the Gold Coast.

Opened in 2016 the Centre which showcases some of the biggest appliance brands sold in Australia has been a runaway success with renovators, builders and kitchen designers using the location to choose their appliances.

Today thousands of Gold Coast developments have appliances that were initially chosen at the Bundall store prior to a property being built or renovated.

When the store was initially opened he said “This is a vision that I have had for three to four years”.

It came to fruition after an initial discussion with CEO Katie Page.

She said ‘Go for it! – and so we did!

ChannelNews understands that he will still live on the Gold Coast after buying into a new Isle of Capri development which is set to be finished at the end of this year.

Cavalier was also a close friend of Alan Stephenson who was fired by Harvey Norman after a major investigation of the Companies NSW Harvey Norman Commercial franchisee.

The exit of Ackery and Cavalier raises questions of who will be next and whether the loss of experience will impact the Company.

Some insiders claim that the next big retirement could be Company founder Gerry Harvey who at 85 is still Chairman of the business that was founded in 1982 with Cavalier joining the retailer 6 years later.
