Android 17 Bug Leaves Some Pixel Owners Facing Touchscreen Problems
Google’s latest Android 17 rollout is encountering early criticism after some Pixel users reported touchscreen glitches shortly after installing the update.
Complaints have surfaced across online forums and Google’s support community, with owners of the Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 claiming that their devices occasionally stop responding to touch input. Others have described erratic scrolling behaviour that makes navigating the operating system more difficult than usual.
Several users say the issue appears randomly and affects normal interactions throughout the device. In some instances, swipe gestures are reportedly being interpreted incorrectly, causing content to move in the opposite direction to what was intended.
Reports suggest the problem is linked to the software update rather than any specific hardware component. The issue has been observed across multiple Pixel generations that support Android 17, while Pixel 6 devices have not been widely associated with the bug. Earlier Pixel models are not affected as they do not support the new operating system.

Affected users say the touchscreen interruptions are not limited to a single application. Instead, the behaviour appears throughout the user interface, including home screens, settings menus and third-party apps.
Google has acknowledged the complaints and has offered a number of troubleshooting suggestions while it investigates the cause. Recommended steps include clearing the cache for Pixel Launcher and testing the device in Safe Mode to determine whether another application could be contributing to the issue.
However, some users report that these measures have not resolved the touchscreen problems, leading to growing calls for a dedicated software fix.
The timing is challenging for Google, as Android 17 only recently began reaching eligible Pixel devices. The update was promoted as a refinement release designed to improve performance and introduce new features across supported handsets.
Until a patch becomes available, some Pixel owners may prefer to delay installing Android 17 if they have not yet updated. Those already experiencing issues are likely to be watching closely for an official response from Google.
With complaints continuing to emerge in the days following the release, pressure is mounting on the company to deliver a fix and restore confidence in its latest software update.
