Amazon Updates Entry-Level Fire TV Stick With Faster Performance
Amazon has introduced a refreshed version of its entry-level streaming device, bringing a series of updates aimed at improving usability without raising the barrier to entry. Priced at around A$55, the latest Fire TV Stick HD sits at the lower end of the company’s range but includes several meaningful upgrades.
The new design is slimmer, making it easier to position behind a television, particularly in tighter setups. It can now draw power directly from a TV’s USB port using a compact cable, reducing the need for a separate wall adapter in many cases.
Performance has also been improved, with support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, along with a speed boost of more than 30 per cent compared to the previous version. This results in quicker start-up times and faster app navigation.

Voice control remains central, with Alexa integration allowing users to search for content, control smart home devices or resume viewing across compatible screens. A new accessibility-focused display setting is also expected to roll out, designed to make menus and text easier to read.
While it remains a basic streaming option, the updated model continues to offer a straightforward way to modernise older televisions.
The new Fire TV Stick HD will start shipping on April 29 to those in the US, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with more regions coming later.
