Western Digital Aims To Beat Mounting Issues New NAS Drive

Western Digital whose previous drives have been extremly difficult to mount is set to release new network-attached storage (NAS)under their MyBook World Edition brand

The new linup will consist of a 1TB and a 2TB version and allow users to attach up to five computers to the drive. The devices will go head to head with the new Cisco Media Hub which comes with superior networking and mounting capability as well as software that allows users to manage content similar to the way that a media centre does.

Talking to TWICE Dale Pistilli, Western Digital’s marketing VP for branded products, said the market for NAS products has barely been touched, primarily because consumers still don’t understand the concept. The market is households that have home networks.

“Only 10 percent back up automatically,” Pistilli said, with the majority either doing nothing or burning their data manually onto DVDs.

The World Edition is Windows and Mac compatible. It features continual backup for all computers on the network and allows users to access their data from outside the network.
