Samsung Could Launch More Tizen Smartphones This Year
Reuters has reported Samsung will launch several Tizen smartphones at varying prices, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.
Samsung launched its first Tizen smartphone, the Z1, in India in January, expanding its ecosystem of smart devices running the OS.
The Economic Times has reported Samsung has sold 1 million Z1 smartphones in India since its launch and plans to follow up with a gold variant of the device next month.
Earlier in the year, Samsung stated via a blog post that it will introduce “a flood of devices” running the Tizen OS in 2015.
Tizen has featured in Samsung’s wearables and cameras, with Samsung noting via the post that it will feature prominently in most of its smart appliances and all of its smart TVs throughout 2015, comprising a “large and important part” of its IoT strategy.
International Data Corporation (IDC) figures earlier in the year showed Android and iOS accounted for 96.3 per cent of all smartphone shipments in 2014, with Android capturing 81.5 per cent of the market and iOS 14.8 per cent.
