Review: When It Comes To Value, Bauhn Still Reigns Supreme

After cruising into the market and winning over thousands of consumers in short order last year, Bauhn are back on ALDI shelves again with their new 65-inch UHD LCD LED TV.

Like last year’s 55 and 65-inch variants, the key quality here is value. Put more bluntly: it gets the job done. If you’re in the market and looking to make the significant jump to 4K for a significantly lower price than you’d find with other brands, this is a  TV worth more than a passing look.

As such, there’s no overly-complicated set-up here. The 65-inch display don’t come with any smarts, so out of the box it’s pretty much plug-and-play. Given most smart TV interfaces are often pretty shoddy (with some notable exceptions), this isn’t a major loss. Importantly, it does keep things as simple as can be.

With Bauhn, you’re able to pull the display out of the box, attach the stand legs, plug in your Chromecast/Fetch TV and enjoy your favorite content – a lot of which is now available in 4K Ultra High Definition. The only way it could be any simpler is if the stand came attached from the get-go. If you find yourself tuning into more traditional broadcasts, it’s even capable of recording via PVR straight onto an external hard drive for later viewing.

While it might lack the brains of last year’s offerings, Bauhn’s latest effort doesn’t suffer any shortcomings when it comes to performance. The TV comes certified to deliver 4K quality video. Packing in support for HDMI 2.0, a 60Hz native refresh rate, a built-in HD-tuner and a 4700:1 contrast ratio, it’s got the goods and doesn’t try to tack on anything that could weigh the TV down when it comes to price-point. The deal is further sweetened by the built-in speakers and one-year warranty that comes with the TV, which promises to add even more value.

The 65-inch model is more-or-less the same story. It’s a couple hundred dollars more expensive but if you want to make the jump to 4K in one of the biggest sizes possible, this is the TV to get. In addition, it also boasts a noticeably sharper design than previous models. While it lacks the colour depth you’ll get out of a $10,000 TV, it comes impressively close for less than a tenth of the asking price.

Conclusion

To recap: Bauhn’s new 65-inch LCD LED TVs provide a solid stepping stone to Ultra HD 4K home entertainment experiences at a sub-$1000 price. If you’re looking for bells, whistles and incremental additions – there are plenty of other options out there. However, when it comes to the essentials, Bauhn reigns supreme.

Bauhn’s 65-inch 4K Ultra HD LCD LED TV will be available through ALDI from the 25th of March for an RRP of $899.
