World Smartphone Shipments To Favour 5G Handsets
The global smartphone market will grow 12 percent this year with shipments reaching 1.4 billion units according to industry analyst Canalys.
The research company says around 610 million 5G smartphones units will be among the devices shipped this year.
Component supply, however, will emerge as a bottleneck for the smartphone industry, despite a subdued pandemic due to increasing vaccine rollouts.
By contrast, smartphone shipments fell seven percent in 2020, due to major market constraints caused by the pandemic.
Mainland China is expected to dominate the smartphone industry with 394 million shipments, followed by Asia-Pacific, 381 million; the Middle East, 355 million; the US and Canada, 159 million; and Latin America, 126 million.
