Windows 10 Update Causing Printer Issue

For some users, the March update for Windows 10 has not played well with some printers, with the ‘blue screen of death’ reportedly appearing when attempting to print.

So far the issue is affecting Kyocera, Ricoh, and Zebra printers. After the latest KB5000802 update is installed, sending a file to print on these printers is causing Windows 10 to show the blue screen and the error code “APC_INDEX_MISMATCH for win32kfull.sys.” Eek, that’s unfriendly.

A mismatched driver is the culprit and the error occurs when printing from Notepad, Microsoft Word and other Windows apps. It doesn’t appear to be linked to a specific program, and it doesn’t happen when not printing in Windows.

Microsoft is aware of the problem but hasn’t yet advised when a fix will be completed.

At this stage, the tech support page for the March Windows update shows that Microsoft is on the case. “We are presently investigating and will provide an update when more information is available,” it states.
