Let’s be honest, nobody loves paying their phone bill. But plenty of Australians are doing exactly that, month after month, handing over serious cash to the big telcos without questioning whether there’s a better way.

There is. It’s called Boost Mobile, and it might just be the best-kept secret in Australian telco, except it’s not really a secret anymore.

Full Telstra network. Seriously smaller price.

Here’s the thing about Boost Mobile that makes it a little cheeky: it’s owned by Telstra. Yes, that Telstra. Which means Boost customers get full access to Australia’s largest mobile network, 4G and 5G, the works, without the premium price tag that usually comes stapled to the Telstra brand. It’s a bit like finding out the fancy restaurant and the great little place next door share the same kitchen.

The new plan that’s turning heads
Boost has just dropped a 6-month prepaid plan for $180, and it comes loaded, we’re talking 100GB of data, unlimited talk and text, calls to 20 international destinations, and 3,600 minutes of calls to 30 more countries. Speeds are capped at a perfectly respectable 150Mbps.

But here’s where it gets properly good: activate a new SIM before August 10 and you’ll pocket an extra 60GB of bonus data on your first recharge, bumping you up to 160GB for the same $180. That works out to roughly $30 for 26GB per month, which, when compared to what most Aussies are currently paying, might make you want to lie down for a moment.
After the bonus period it settles to about $30 for 16GB per month. Still solid. Still Telstra network.

The numbers don’t lie (and they’re a little embarrassing).

Fresh off being crowned WeMoney’s 2026 Prepaid Provider of the Year, Boost dropped some data that should make every Australian look sideways at their phone bill:

45% of Australians are spending more than $100/month on mobile
50% think they’re overpaying (spoiler: they probably are)
82% are actively trying to cut household costs
72% are thinking about switching providers, yet 46% haven’t changed telcos in over three years.

Translation: most of us know we’re paying too much, we keep meaning to do something about it, and then we just… don’t. The good news is switching to Boost is genuinely one of the easier wins going around when it comes to trimming the budget.
Three plans, one very good network
Whether you want to recharge every 6 months or just once a year, Boost has a prepaid option to suit, including two existing 365-day plans alongside this shiny new 186-day addition.

If you’re currently on Optus or Vodafone and haven’t taken a hard look at what Boost is offering, now’s the time. The Telstra network isn’t going anywhere, but this 60GB bonus offer is.
