Vandals Target Sydney Telstra Exchanges

More than 40 Telstra exchanges across Sydney have been vandalised in a spree of attacks.

Exchanges were broken into and live wires exposed, forcing Telstra to close some sites over safety concerns, according to ABC News.

Telstra said the sites remain operational but access will be restricted until the sites can be inspected and any safety issues resolved.

The site closures could have an effect on NBN, home broadband, and phone services.

A Telstra spokesman told the national broadcaster security will be beefed up in response to the attacks.

The exchanges are believed to include sites in the eastern suburbs at Waverley, south Sydney at Como, the upper north shore at Berowra, and the western suburbs at Silverwater, but Telstra wouldn’t confirm which sites were targeted.

NSW Police are investigating.
