TikTok representatives say attempts to assuage the fears of Washington lawmakers have been met with resistance.

This week, a bipartison group of US senators introduced a bill that would give Biden to authority to shutdown foreign-owned apps on national security guards, and even force a sale under some circumstances.

This comes after a December ban on TikTok on all government-issued devices.

“No one is interested in talking about the protocols and safety measures, because they have their own political agenda,” a TikTok executive told Nikkei Asia.

“We feel that there is a lot of uncertainty ahead, and whatever the company does, it will have little impact on the result.”

“What we need to do is to introduce robust proposals to address White House national security concerns and make our voices heard.”

A TikTok spokesman said that “a U.S. ban on TikTok is a ban on the export of American culture and values to the billion-plus people who use our service worldwide.”
