Tik Tok Hits A Billion Active Users

TikTok has reached over a billion active users, an impressive milestone for an app that only launched four years ago.

Like many online platform, usage of Tik Tok accelerated during the pandemic, with over 300 million users joining since July, 2020, the last time the company reported its user stats.

The app, created by Chinese group ByteDance, is so popular among Chinese kids that the government has limited daily use on the platform to 40 minutes a day for under 14s.

Despite this rapid rise, Tik Tok only started monetising its platform’s traffic last year with advertising, and this August, launched an online marketplace to allow users to sell products directly to its audience.
